Good mental health and staying active go hand-in-hand. When you feel overwhelmed, set aside some time to head to the gym or maybe even take a stroll around your neighborhood. When you exercise your arms and legs might look like they are doing all the work, but your brain is also quite busy.

During exercise, chemicals are released into the brain that improve your mood and help you relax. At the same time, these chemicals also decrease the level of the stress hormone in your body. Combined, this can help you remain calm and control any feelings of anxiety you might be experiencing.

Face Your Fears

The term face your fears is talked about so often it's become cliché to some. However, this is a real and effective technique for managing anxiety. When you face anxiety producing situations, a desensitization process can occur that may not just help you control the anxiety, but maybe even overcome it.

The idea is to slowly introduce yourself to the fear. For someone with a fear of large crowds, this process would begin by attending a small gathering. Overtime, they would increase the size of the gathering until they were eventually attending an event with a large crowd. For those individuals who suffer from severe anxiety, this method should not be applied unless under the guidance or supervision of a professional.

Really Want It

In life, it doesn't matter what you do. If you don't really want whatever it is you are working towards, it's a good possibility that you won't attain it. Keep this same frame of mind when it comes to controlling your anxiety.
